In the Classroom
We have been busy and will be starting some new units this week in several subjects.
Reader's Workshop - This week, we will leave informational texts for a bit and revisit narrative text. Our focus will be on point of view. When reading narrative texts at home, ask your child about the point of view. We are learning how to analyze the point of view and how it affects the story.
Writer's Workshop - Writers are putting the finishing touches on their written published historical essay. We will spend some time in the lab this week starting to electronically publish their writing. We will be using a free app called BookPress. It is also available though a website. We won't have time for students to complete the electronic publishing at school, but those who choose to publish at home will have the opportunity to present their ebooks to the class. They are very excited about this process!
Math - We will test over the multiplication and division strategies we have been learning in class. Although we will continue to practice and refine these skills, we will move onto our next unit which explores fractions. Fractions can be frustrating for students, be on the look out for tips and tutorials on the blog.
Social Studies - We are making salt dough maps of Missouri that the students will paint and label later this week. This was an extension of their research. First, they completed an essay about Missouri's geography, climate/weather, and resources.
Science - Our next unit will be animal classification.
