In the Classroom...

Readers Workshop - We are diving into the world of nonfiction and the kids are so excited! Our focus this week is on connecting to the texts we read, previewing to set a purpose, and determining text structure. 

Writers Workshop - After researching our topics, students are now beginning to draft their informational books. We will draft and publish before Winter Break!

Math - We have started a new unit of multiplication and students will begin doing larger multiplication problems. You will see them using strategies that may not look familiar and I encourage you to ask questions! After learning several different strategies, they will ultimately get to decide which way works best for their brain. I will be sure to send helpful hints and videos to help you understand our new strategies. 

Science - This week we are exploring volcanoes and the kids! We learned about the ring of fire by mapping out active volcanoes around the world and then learned about the different types of volcanoes. 

Pancakes with Santa

PTA is working on the final details of their upcoming event next Saturday, December 12th. If you are planning to attend, it is highly encouraged to preorder tickets. This will make it much easier and faster that morning when you arrive. I will send home one more flyer this week. 

Math Club

We had 10 students stay for Math Club today! This will be a great opportunity for kids to have extra time to practice skills they are struggling with as well as time for me to push the kids who need a bit of a challenge. 

Please let me know by Monday of each week if your child will be staying so I can plan accordingly. In the case of threatening weather, I will make the decision by noon of that day if we will not have Math Club that afternoon. Also note that there may be times I need to cancel and I attempt to let you know by Monday of each week. If I am unexpectedly gone, I will email that day and have students make phone calls home, if necessary.
