Curriculum Night

We have an excellent turnout last night for Curriculum Night. Thank you for coming and learning more about our classroom and our expectations of learning for this school year. I also understand that your evenings get very full and some were unable to attend due to other important events. I will try to include everything I presented for you to view at your own leisure. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any clarification. I will send some forms and handouts that were given with your child as well.

After clicking on the link, click on "Present Online" to view the Prezi. You can advance slides by clicking on the arrows at the bottom of each slide.

One more thing... before I post any more picture to the blog, it did not occur to me that while I have your permission to post pictures of your child, I did not think about how the pictures could be transferable. Please keep the privacy of other students in mind when sharing pictures with others.Thank you!

Science is Fun!

We started off our year in science with a little experiment. We will have lots of fun this year while learning all at the same time. The kids enjoyed our little introduction and while they were innocent bystanders this go around, there will be plenty of opportunities to get their hands dirty this year!
We followed our demonstration with a discussion of how we could take our learning further. Many great suggestions were made. While we didn't have the means to do the following experiment, the kids seemed to really enjoy this demo as well. Don't worry, we also had a "Don't try this at home" disclaimer! :)
Stay tuned for more science fun this year!

Two days down!

What a great start to fourth grade! Wednesday and Thursday, we focused on getting acquainted with one another and becoming familiar with our classroom environment. We will do a lot of work together as a team and the ability to work together in a positive manner is truly important to our overall success. I have really enjoyed getting to know so much about each one of the kids.

Today we started math by discovering the features of the student reference book. The SRB is a great tool that will be helpful to you and your family this year while supporting your child as they learn new math strategies. They are welcome to bring their SRB home each night, but please be sure it returns to school daily.

We will do lots of writing this year in class. While there are specific types of writing we will focus on, I also encourage my students to explore their writing skills on their own. Today, they devoted one of their spiral journals to their own personal writing. Since writers find their ideas in a variety of places in life, it is important that they keep this close to them and in quick access. Unlike the writing they do in class, I will never require my fourth graders to share their journals with me. I do however invite them to share their pieces of writing with me weekly. I hope they find this as a method to record their thoughts and feelings about topics they wish to explore and reflect upon.

Tomorrow will be a fun day! To help launch our study of scientific inquiry, we will be doing a fun and EXPLOSIVE science experiment! I hope to post pictures soon!

Thank you for letting me be a part of your child's education! I truly love my job!

Welcome to Fourth Grade!

I want to first welcome you and your family to fourth grade! I am so excited to get this year going! This summer has been lots of fun, but also very busy! My husband and I took our three daughters for a week long camping trip in South Dakota and we had so much fun! The girls loved every minute and the drive was actually pretty pleasant!

There is always so much to tell about summer adventures and I am sure you kiddos are ready to share! Family is so very important to me, yours and mine. Please use this blog to keep us in constant communication. The contact form on the lower left will help you send me an email quickly and easily. I am certainly looking forward to our year together as we work together to educate your child. Please do not hesitate to contact me!
